ESD Packaging

An ESD Packaging is required to package ESDS items and to protect them from being damaged by an external static electricity.
There are two common types of ESD protective packaging which are commonly used by industries to protect their ESDS items.

  •  ESD bag : There are three common types of ESD bag available in the market.

  •  ESD shielding bag : This ESD shielding bag consists of metallized plastic and dissipative plastic which are sandwiched with each other. This ESD bag will protect ESDS items from the external electric field.
  •  ESD shielding – moisture barrier bag : When ESDS items are also sensitive towards moisture, they have to be protected from both ESD damage and moisture by using ESD shielding –moisture barrier bag.
  • ESD Black Conductive bag : An ESD black conductive bag is made from conductive polyethylene. It has the same properties on both sides of the bag. Air bubble sheets can be incorporated into the construction of black conductive bag to provide protection against shock and vibration.
  •  ESD Dissipative bag : An ESD dissipative bag is commonly available in pink colour. It is made from plastic polyethylene that is combined with or coated with antistatic chemical. Both surfaces of the bag show similar properties. This ESD Dissipative bag can also be constructed by using air bubble sheets.

  •  ESD box : When conductive material is incorporated into the construction of a corrugated paper box, it becomes an ESD box. The ESDS items can be placed inside the ESD safe corrugated paper box without the use of shielding bag. When conductive material is not incorporated into the construction of the corrugated paper box, the ESDS items must be protected from the external static electricity by using either ESD Shielding bag or ESD Conductive bag. When the ESDS items are movable inside the box, it can be protected from vibration and shock by using cushioning material like ESD air bubble sheet, ESD foam or ESD loose fill.

Labelling on the ESD Protective packaging : All ESD Protective packaging (e.g. ESD bags and ESD boxes) should carry ESD symbol to identify them as ESD protective packaging.
